Interactive Teacher Workshops and Study Groups
Workshop sessions for a whole or subset of the faculty enable exploration of teaching strategies together (as with writers workshop, for example). While this traditional approach to professional development it remains valuable, it doesn’t insure adoption of new instructional ideas on its own. IWP programs therefore use this mode strategically in combination with others.
Smaller teacher groups can work together, focused on studying professional books or articles, along with practical classroom strategies, facilitated by the IWP leader.
These can be scheduled during professional development days, after school, or during more extended time during the summer.
